Turns and 'Maintenance' One of the most common questions asked by a new player to Yap is How do I get more turns? The answer is that they are simply given to you each day when the Daily Maintenance occurs(in the Melee game turns are hourly). Turns are really the unit of time in Quest for Yap. Since you can't get many turns besides what you are given each day, they are very valuable. The Daily Maintenance is when any daily activities in the game take place. It's sort of like the "end of the turn" for the entire game. The Maintenance is the time for: planet construction, jump gate construction, turn distribution, bank/bounty interest compounding, newbie protection ticks(from "2 days left" to "1 day left", etc), port regeneration, and movement of Houses. Anything that is referred to as "happening daily" probably happens at the Daily Maintenance. You can find out what time the Maintenance runs at in each game by looking in the News. A news entry is made each time a maint runs. You will see the Hourly Maint every hour, and if you find the one that says Maintenance run, that's the daily. The time is different between each of the games(Newbies, Original, Melee), but will stay the same within that game. Two very important Maintenances are the Third Maintenance and the Fifth Maintenance. After a reset, these are the first days that ships and planets can be attacked, respectively. It can be quite advantageous to be online when these maints occur, although obviously not everyone can be! One other thing to note is that the first maintenance(daily, not hourly) after a reset is generally skipped. This is to give at least 24 hours for people to join the new game before the first round of turns is given out. | |
