Races

Which of the seven Races you pick will have a significant impact on what you will be best at doing. Below is a short description of the benefits each race has.

HUMANS
Humans have learned much from the other races in the universe and have adapted traits from many of them. The result is a race that is good at everything, although lacks a specific specialty. Human ships can be used for trade or combat, and are generally very upgradable. They are also cheaper than comparable ships.
+ All-around effectiveness
+ Cheap ships
+ Ships can fufill multiple needs

KRIONI
The Krioni are masters of combat. They have a history of working on the side of various government establishments, tracking down and destroying rogue elements. More recently, however, the growing chaos has turned Krioni into mercenaries who will kill for the highest bidder. Krioni ships include the Bounty Hunter, the most powerful standard ship in the game, and their War Upgrade is among the best upgrades. In addition, Krioni get a bonus of 20% on all bounties they claim.
+ Bounty Hunter ship - Most powerful in game
+ War Upgrade - Huge bonus to shields, armor, and drones
+ 20% more cash gained from bounties
+ Can see through Standard Cloak without upgrades

NEOTHANS
The Neothans are a displaced race that now lives almost completely in space, their planets previously taken over from various invaders. Over generations, the Neothans have evolved to be a stealthy combative race. While they may not display the warrior ethic of the Krioni, their cunning is unmatched. Neothans are masters of Cloaking technology, and their Pirate ships have strong attack power. Neothans also have a trade bonus when dealing with Gold, and have access to sneaky upgrades such as Traps that can be left in sectors to interfere with anyone who comes by.
+ Ships can be upgraded with Cloak, hiding them from most enemies
+ Pirate ship can have a chance to take over enemy ships
+ Traps to lay in sectors
+ Trade bonus with Gold

ARTES
Artes are the businessmen of the universe. Skilled in trade, Artes are a mandatory resource for any enterprise. The most important asset the Artes have is their insane Trade Upgrade that adds 500 cargo to a ship for only one upgrade slot. When working with a Hyperion to get Hyper Merchants, Artes ships can have up to 4000 holds.
+ Trade Upgrade - +500 cargo
+ Super Freighter and the upgradable Mammoth Freighter
+ Best possible total trade power
+ Necessary for any competitive clan

YODI'KI
Yodi'ki are a planet-focused race. Their colonist transports cost less turns to use, and they can purchase the planet-destroying Devastator ship. Yodi'ki also get a bonus when selling low-level goods that come directly from mines. Especially when using ships donated from the Artes, this makes Yodi'ki highly competitive traders.
+ Colonist Transports cost 1 turn per 3500 cargo rather than 1 per 2500
+ Powerful Devastator anti-planet ship with 25 turrets
+ Trade bonus on low-level goods

HYPERIONS
The Hyperions are a mysterious race of technology. Their Hyper Merchant is highly upgradable and useful to other races. Artillery Cruisers can destroy a planet without taking damage. All ships that Hyperions purchase from the ship shop have 20% more shields, armor, and drones, making a Hyperion Frigate one of the best frigate setups in the game.
+ +20% defenses on all purchased ships
+ Artillery Cruiser to bombard planets and sectors
+ Versatile Hyper Merchant with 8 upgrade slots
+ Critical combination with the Artes race

DRACONIANS
The Draconians are also a technological race, but their focus lies in space travel. Draconians have access to a special advanced propulsion unit that decreases turn cost to 1/3 compared to the 1/2 from a standard propulsion unit. Draconians also have the Probe ship, which doesn't always take a turn to move when scouting. Draconian Illusion technology can also make a Draconian ship appear to be what it is not. Draconians can also see more information about an enemy planet than a normal player can.
+ Adv Propulsion Upgrade - 1/3 the turn cost
+ Illusion to hide identity of ships
+ Probe ship to scout with low turn cost
+ Planet Colonist and Defense Ratings display seperately
