Moving Around

Getting around in Quest for Yap is fairly simple, but it's important to know the different ways you can move your ship, as well as where you can take it.

The place you are at in the game is called a Sector. On the main game screen after you log in there is a Mini-Map that will show some of the other sectors near you. To see a map of the whole galaxy that you are in, use the Universe Map.

Simple Moving: To move to an adjacent sector, either click it on the Mini-Map, or click the corresponding Sector Warp in the middle of the screen. This kind of movement costs 1 turn per ship.

Navigation: If you are heading to a specific sector in the same galaxy, you can use Navigation link in the middle of the screen. The turn cost is based on the distance between sectors on the map. Over long distances, this will save you time and turns, but over short distances it may not.

Jump Gates: Gates form links between sectors that are not otherwise connected, but are fairly expensive to build. A [Jump Gate] link will appear next to the Sector Warps, clicking it will give you a list of options to travel to. This costs 1 turn per ship if used within a galaxy or if either sector is a Mall Sector(green on the map). If neither sector is a Mall Sector and you are jumping between galaxies, it will cost 2 turns per ship.

Yellow Sectors: These sectors indicate a link to another galaxy. A sector in another galaxy will appear in the Sector Warps, and you can move between them as if the sectors are adjacent. Keep track of what sectors link to what other galaxies so you can find your way back to Main!

Green Sectors: These sectors indicate the presence of a Mall Sector. Mall Sectors have locations such as Ship Shops, Equipment Shops, Upgrade Centers, Weapons Shops, Colonist Pickups, Banks, etc. Sector 1 is a special Mall Sector where players start, and it cannot be claimed.

Upgrades for Moving Around

Propulsion Upgrade

Adv Propulsion Upgrade

Use: This is a more powerful propulsion upgrade that reduces turn cost to 1/3 of normal.
