Paying for Quest for Yap:
Why would I want
to pay for Yap?
Quest for Yap is a free game. Nobody has to pay for it to play it. If you pay, you won’t get any special benefits in the game. You won’t get extra turns, cash, ships, nothing.
Why? Because many times games have tried to offer a “free” version, and then a pay-for version, and the payers almost always have such extreme advantages that the non-payers don’t have a chance and they stop playing. Well, simply put, much of Yap’s audience is under age, and thus cannot pay without a parent’s help and permission. Other people don’t trust any sort of money transfer over the internet. I provide Yap as a free game; I never made the game intending to make money off of it. If I did, I would have abandoned the project long ago. Much of the server costs have come out of my own pocket, and I volunteer my time without pocketing any reparations for it. My number one goal is to keep Quest for Yap running as a great game to play.
So, just what DO you get if you pay? If you pay for Quest for Yap, you are helping to keep the game you love alive. Think of it less as a subscription, but as a donation. When you sign up to pay for Yap, you are keeping the game running. You are also bribing me to keep an extra special eye out for the game’s needs as well as your personal complaints. When people aren’t paying and I’m not making money off the game, I can ignore everything people tell me or complain about without really losing anything. Basically you make me more willing to spend my time on Yap rather than on other projects. I usually do care, and I usually get things done, but as many people can vouch for, if I am having a bad day, am too busy, or am doing something else, I probably won’t pay much attention to you, and things that should be done get postponed indefinitely. By some people signing up to pay for Yap, it makes me more responsible, as I have some financial gain by keeping you happy, as well as the satisfaction I already have from having happy customers.
Currently, I use advertising to try and cover server costs. Some months, ad revenue has actually passed up server cost, and I have made a small profit, but I am still in the red overall, due to all the months where I made next to nothing. The past couple months, my ad revenue has actually gone down while playership goes up. Fancy that. Anyways, as a reward and some incentive to those of you who sign up to pay for Yap, these advertisements will be removed. If you are providing me with different revenue, it makes sense that you shouldn’t have to put up with the inconvenience of the other revenue source, right? Now, while the donation aspect of it is important, getting rid of the annoying popups and banner ads is probably going to be the main reason people sign up.
Terms &
Conditions
First simple rule: Nothing Is Guaranteed.
When you sign up to pay for Quest for Yap, you are giving a donation, not paying a subscription fee. If your account is deleted, this site goes down, or anything happens that makes me unable to provide this service for you, the responsibility is not mine. Due to inconvenience, no refunds are guaranteed. Now, if I know I have to take the site down for some reason, and you have a lot of time that you have purchased, you know what? Chance is about 98% that I’ll be more than happy to refund you so you don’t feel cheated. But if for some reason I cannot do that, due to a collapsed financial situation or whatever, then I just can’t do it. I consider myself to be a pretty fair person, but I can’t accept legal responsibility.
Payment is handled through PayPal. You won’t be able to pay me in any other way. If you are a minor, you’ll need to have a parent assist you. PayPal is a large company and they are very trustworthy in my opinion. I feel my money with paypal is as safe as my money in the bank down the road.
You MAY purchase subscriptions for more than one person if you wish, but of course you can only play one account still. Paying does not make you immune to the rules that other people must abide by. But, for example, if you can pay through paypal, but your friend who pays can’t, it is perfectly okay for you to pay for both accounts and settle with your friend through other means.
