Section 5:
The Universe Map is your best friend. J Simple as that. You’re going to be using it a lot, because you really need it to know how to get around. The universe map is accessable on the right. It should open in a new window. When you load the universe map, it loads the galaxy you are currently in. There are links below the map to change the map to the other galaxies if you need to see them.
Rankings
The rankings are a great way to keep track of the other people in the game, and to find out how well they are doing. This is also where you look for recognition. J There really isn’t much to say about the rankings, its pretty self explanitory. The rankings are automatically ordered by experience, but you can change that by clicking the column name on top. So to sort by Score, click where it says Score on the top. If you click on Player, it will sort the players alphabetically. You’ll notice a link to the Clan Rankings. This is basically the same as the rankings, except all clanmember’s are added into their respective clans. One of the other useful functions of the rankings page is the online feature. This puts an asterisk (*) next to everybody who is online at the current time. This is all the people who have loaded a page in the last 10 minutes. Nice to know when your friends are on to plan strikes on enemy fleets, or when your enemies are on so you know to watch out.
Clans
Clans have been mentioned frequently in other areas of these help files, but I haven’t really explained them yet. A clan is the same is an alliance. No you aren’t joining the Ku Klux Klan, it has nothing to do with that. In different genres and games, alliances are called different things, from just Alliance, to Team, to Squad, to Clan. Clan is just the name I picked because I like it best. J Clans in Quest for Yap are very important. Although you could eke out a living on your own, having a few clanmembers to back you up and help you through hard times is nice. To manage your clans, click the clans link on the right. You will see a list of all the clans in the game. Clicking on a clan’s name will prompt you to enter the password for that clan. You can’t join a clan without the password! The clan owners are also listed. Usually the owner is a good person to contact about joining the clan. Don’t expect to be accepted by just anybody either, some clans are more picky than others.
So, you think you can handle a clan of your own? If you have friends that play in the game, or there just isn’t anybody that wants you (whether they are scared for security reasons or they just don’t want any more people), you should create a clan of your own. Click Create on the clans page and follow the prompts. Finally your clan will be created! Start recruiting people. Be careful though, clan members can see where your ships are, and have access to your planets! Some people join clans and then sell that clan’s information to others..
So why should you be in a clan? Here’s some things..
· Can’t attack each others ships: Some people you don’t need to worry about
· Can land on each others planets: Good if you need protection
· Don’t hit each others mines: Less pesky minefields to deal with
· Team victory: Multiple people working together for victory
·
Have fun with clans! Read below for help with some of the special functions the owner of a clan has.
Admin Clan
When you are in control of a clan, you get a whole list of Admin Clan options. When you are the owner of a clan, you cannot leave the clan like a normal member. Once everybody has left your clan, however, you are able to leave the clan, which will then be deleted. Once everybody is gone, that leave clan option will be in the Admin Clan page, otherwise it will not be available to you. Here is a list of the other admin clan options, what they do, and how you can use them.
There are three options you have for other members of your clan. These are Kick, Payment, and Ranks. The links for these will be next to the players names when you are on the Admin Clan page.
Kicking a user does just that. When you kick a user they will be removed from your clan just as if they had left. This is a good way to flush out inactives, or potential spys. If you are trying to weed out a spy, you will probably need to change your password as well..
Payment sets the payment for the player. Simple right? But what is a payment? Payment is a way for the owner of a clan to distribute their own cash around the clan. You can set a player’s payment as high as you want, or 0, and then every maint, if you have enough money, it will be transferred from you to the player.
Ranks allows you to set a players rank in the clan. There are 5 ranks: Leader/owner, Co-Owner, Commander, Squad Leader, and Member. All players start out as a member. Only the person who created the clan can be a leader/owner. That person can then set the other ranks for members. Here is a list of the ranks and benefits they give.
Member is the starting level for all players. Members get nothing special.
Squad Leader is the next level. Squad Leaders are considered dedicated members to the clan. The Squad Leader position has no true effect, it is just a label.
Commander is the level above Squad Leader. Commanders will be able to change the payments sent to each player except himself, and will be able to kick players out who are at a Member level, but not Squad Leaders or anything higher.
Co-Owners get most of the options that the owner gets. Co-Owners can kick all members but other Co-Owners and the Owner, can promote Squad Leaders or Members to Squad Leaders or Commanders, and can change payments. Co-Owners can also change passwords.
Leaders/owners are limited to 1 per clan, the person who created it. Leaders have access to all options within the clan.
The last option on the Admin Clan page is Change Password. On the Change Password screen you will need to enter the clan’s password and then the new password you want twice. This is very useful if there were spys in your clan or if the password gets out somehow.
Bounties
Bounties aren’t a big part of the game, but can give you a little extra cash for killing somebody, or allow you to get people to gang up on an enemy.
Bounties are accumulated in three ways.
· Player Placed: Players can place bounties on each other. When you examine a player, there will be an option to add to somebody’s bounty. You cannot place bounties on a clanmate. Also, be careful! Any money put into a bounty is completely non-refundable!
· Destroying Ships: Whenever you destroy a ship of the enemy, you get some extra bounty. The bounty is proportional to the amount of experience you gain for killing the ship.
· Interest: Bounties gain 5% interest every night, or a different value set by the administration. This doesn’t add a lot to a bounty, but helps so that they don’t drop too far behind. For instance, in the first days of the game, a 5 million dollar bounty might be pretty much. But by the end of the game, that 5 mil is probably not going to be worth much to anybody.
For the most part, be wise in placing your bounties. Don’t place more than you can afford. It’s a good place to funnel all that extra cash you get though. J
Examine
The Examine page has numerous functions. The Examine page is also called up in numerous ways. If you click Examine next to a ship owned by somebody else, you will get the examine page on their owner. If you click somebody’s name in the ranks, forum, clan page, chances are the examine page will result. When you examine yourself, you get your Player Info page, which you can get to by clicking your name on the top left or clicking Player Info on the top right. The Examine page shows different information depending on who you are examining. I’ll go through the list of things that can be displayed on the examine page, and who can see them.
Bounty, Kills, Lost, Exp, Score, Race and Clan are all public information. No matter who you are examining, you will see all of these stats. Also on every examine page is a link to send a message to that player. If you are examining yourself or a clanmember, you will also see information on their cash, bank account, turns, and how many ships they have. If you are examining anybody but yourself, you will have two boxes for sending cash and for sending to their bank. Just type in how much you want to send and click the button. If you are examining somebody not in your clan you will also be able to place a bounty on that player. For yourself or players in your clan, you will get access to a list of their ships, planets, and minefields. When you examine yourself you will also have a box to rename the ship you are currently in command of. If you have the fleet “all” functions set to appear on the examine page, those will be here as well.
All in all, the examine page is one of the most important pages in the game. Use it often. It is a great way to see how clanmates are doing, find out who is what race, and more. Lists of planets and minefields are also on the clan page.
